John Weber of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP Selected as One of ABI's 2024 "40 Under 40"
Alexandria, Va.— ABI announces that John Weber of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP (New York) has been selected as one of ABI’s “40 Under 40,” ABI’s award program that recognizes 40 of the top insolvency industry professionals under the age of 40. The honorees will be recognized at a special ceremony on Dec. 13 during ABI’s 2024 Winter Leadership Conference at The Phoenician Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Weber is a partner in the Restructuring Department of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP in New York, where he focuses his practice on representing debtors, equity owners, creditor groups and distressed investors in a broad range of restructuring matters, including chapter 11 cases, cross-border insolvency matters, out-of-court restructurings and bankruptcy-related acquisitions. He has a broad range of experience across a number of industries, including media and communications, health care, retail, energy and manufacturing.
Weber is recognized as a top practitioner by The Legal 500 and as a “Rising Star” and “Top Rated Bankruptcy Attorney” by Super Lawyers. His work on Carlson Travel’s prepackaged chapter 11 cases was recently recognized as the “Pre-Pack Restructuring (Large)” winner for The Turnaround Atlas Awards in 2022. Weber also received ABI’s Medal of Excellence in the Study of Debtor-Creditor Law. More recently, he was named to Lawdragon’s 2023 and 2024 lists of “500 Leading Bankruptcy & Restructuring Lawyers,” which recognizes the top U.S. attorneys helping companies navigate ailing economies and uncertain times, and to “500 X – The Next Generation 2023,” which recognizes future leaders in the legal profession. Weber also recently co-authored “Third Circuit Definitively Rejects Triangular Setoff,” published in Pratt’s Journal of Law.
Within Paul, Weiss, Weber has overhauled the restructuring associates’ training program in recent years, shifting from a high-level approach to one that provides practical skills that enable associates to hit the ground running. He also teaches associates how to assess precedent, identify possible pitfalls, and better understand liability-management transactions. Outside of the office, Weber teaches a restructuring course at George Washington Law, which allows him to nurture his students’ potential interest in a restructuring career. A member of the firm’s Recruiting Committee, he also devotes substantial time to finding the industry’s best talent, including meeting candidates for on-campus interviews and mentoring summer associates.
“We are honored to celebrate the exceptional leaders within the 2024 class as they continue to make a significant impact both in their practice and in their communities,” said ABI Executive Director Amy Quackenboss. “As bankruptcy practice continues to evolve, this diverse collection of honorees will propel ABI and the insolvency community forward.”
The “40 Under 40” winners are distinguished by professional achievements and service and were selected by a group of experienced professionals from ABI’s current leadership. Now in its eighth year, the goal of ABI’s “40 Under 40” award program is not simply to create a one-time ceremony, but to fully engage those selected as future leaders in the insolvency profession and to build on the initiative each year.
